چکیده

A multidisciplinary study involving lithofacies analysis, palynofacies, and palynology is presented for the Muarádzi Sub-basin. This sub-basin part of Moatize-Minjova Basin (MMB), an important Karoo aged coalfield in Mozambique. total 99 core samples from 3 coal exploration boreholes (DW11, DW21, DW141) were analysed all successions assigned a Lopingian age based on palynology. According to data, Sub-basin, vast lowland fluvial setting existed with floodplains wetlands, area controlled by tectonic movements associated continental rifting phase. Typical vegetation Glossopteris Province recorded palynological assemblages this sub-basin, which allowed characterization flora dominated glossopterids (Protohaploxypinus Striatopodocarpites) gymnosperm pollen (Alisporites). Other palynomorphs revealed presence gingkoales, ferns (Filicopsida), sphenopsids, lycopsids area, indicating typical setting. Humid warm climates, higher CO2 atmospheric levels, promoted growth widespread that led development thick beds anoxic dysoxic depositional environments.

Late Maastrichtian benthic foraminiferal response to palaeoenvironmental changes: a case study from the AbTalkh Formation, west of Kopeh-Dagh Basin, Iran

Benthic foraminiferal assemblages from Maastrichtian strata, Gansserina gansseri-Abathamphalus mayaroensis Planktonic Foraminiferal Zone, of the AbTalkh Formation at Aitamir section (west of the Kopeh-Dagh basin) were investigated in order to evaluate the palaeoenvironmental changes (organic matter flux and bottom-water oxygenation). Maastrichtian faunal assemblages are well preserved and diver...

Late Barremian-Early Aptian Ammonites from the Tirgan Formation, Kopet-Dagh Sedimentary Basin, NE Iran

During the recent field research on the Tirgan Formation in the west of Kopet-Dagh sedimentary basin, ammonite assemblages were obtained from the carbonate strata of this formation. This new finding is important for stratigraphical purpose. In this research, 3 genera belong to Heteroceras, Deshayesites and Cheloniceras? as well as one uncertain genus belongs to Turkmeniceras are determined. The...

Abrupt and gradual extinction among Late Permian land vertebrates in the Karoo basin, South Africa.

The Karoo basin of South Africa exposes a succession of Upper Permian to Lower Triassic terrestrial strata containing abundant terrestrial vertebrate fossils. Paleomagnetic/magnetostratigraphic and carbon-isotope data allow sections to be correlated across the basin. With this stratigraphy, the vertebrate fossil data show a gradual extinction in the Upper Permian punctuated by an enhanced extin...
